CATHOLIC EDUCATION FOUNDATION TO HOST 13th ANNUAL SALUTE TO THE GAME  FUNDRAISING EVENT

Live Virtual Event to be Presented by WAVE 3 News

Independence Bank to Serve as Event Lead Sponsor

Foundation Aims to Set All-Time Fundraising Record

(LOUISVILLE, Ky.) – In celebration of the nationally recognized rivalry and thrill of the annual Saint Xavier – Trinity high school football game, the Catholic Education Foundation will host its thirteenth annual Salute to THE GAME  fundraising event on Tuesday, September 22.

This year’s live event will be presented by WAVE 3 News and will be aired starting at noon on “WAVE 3 Listens Live!”, hosted by John Ramsey.

This event has become a hallmark for the community and one of the largest of its kind in the Commonwealth, raising an astonishing $2.7 million in support of Catholic education in central Kentucky in only twelve years.  Last year, the event netted an all-time high $450,000. The annual football game will take place on Friday, September 25 at 8:00 p.m.

Foundation President Richard A. Lechleiter remarked, “We are so thankful to both the Saint Xavier and Trinity communities for allowing the Catholic Education Foundation to further its mission through the Salute. We invite everyone to mark your calendar for this exciting event that showcases two of our outstanding Catholic schools and their storied football rivalry. We’re aiming higher than ever at this year’s event, so come aboard and join in the fun!”

For the first time, the Foundation will feature a Lead Sponsor, Independence Bank, who will contribute $40,000 to the fundraising success of the event. Mr. Lechleiter expressed his deep appreciation, “Wow, I couldn’t be more delighted with our friends at Independence Bank in St. Matthews who have so generously agreed to invest in the futures of all the families we support in Catholic schools throughout central Kentucky! Based in Owensboro, Independence Bank began its Louisville operations just two years ago – and what an impact they’re already making in this community!”

The live half-hour television segment will feature the Most Reverend Joseph E. Kurtz, D. D., Archbishop of Louisville; Independence Bank President Louis Straub; Trinity’s President, Rob Mullen, and Head Coach Bob Beatty; Saint Xavier’s newly-arrived President, Paul Colistra, and Head Coach Kevin Wallace; and a student-athlete from each school.

Archbishop Kurtz shared his excitement about the event’s new format, “I want to thank General Manager Ken Selvaggi and all of our friends at WAVE 3 for their amazing support of our works to provide a Catholic education to more students and families who can’t afford it. I can’t wait to be a part of this event that will spread the word about the Catholic Education Foundation and two of our great Catholic schools to the largest audience we’ve ever had!”
