CATHOLIC EDUCATION FOUNDATION TO HOST NINTH ANNUAL SALUTE TO THE GAMELUNCHEON

Event to Feature Louisville Catholic School Alum Coach

Howard Schnellenberger

(LOUISVILLE, Ky.) – In celebration of the nationally recognized rivalry and thrill of the annual Saint Xavier – Trinity high school football game, the Catholic Education Foundation will host the ninth annual Salute to THE GAME Luncheon at noon on Wednesday, September 28, at the Galt House Hotel in downtown Louisville.

The luncheon has become a hallmark event for the community and one of the largest of its kind in the Commonwealth, raising over $1 million in support of Catholic education in central Kentucky in only eight years.  Last year, the event netted a record $260,000. The annual football game will take place on Friday, September 30 at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium at 8:00 p.m.

Foundation President Richard A. Lechleiter remarked, “We are so thankful to both the Saint Xavier and Trinity communities for allowing the Catholic Education Foundation to further its mission through the Salute luncheon. We invite everyone to mark your calendar for this exciting event that showcases two of our outstanding Catholic schools and their storied football rivalry!”

Coach Howard Schnellenberger, who attended local Catholic grade schools and graduated in 1951 from Flaget High School, will be featured at the event.  “I couldn’t be more excited to come back to my hometown to help celebrate its wonderful Catholic education tradition!  My Catholic school experience has served as the foundation for so much success in my life,” commented Schnellenberger.

In addition to a 10-year run as Head Coach of the University of Louisville, Coach Schnellenberger held coaching positions with several NFL and college teams, earning two Super Bowl wins as an Assistant Coach and four National Championships – three as an Assistant Coach under Paul “Bear” Bryant at the University of Alabama and one as the Head Coach at the University of Miami.

Individual tickets and sponsorship opportunities are available.  For more information on this event or to learn more about the Catholic Education Foundation, visit our website at www.ceflou.org or call (502) 585-2747.
