Certain Benefactors find it more appealing to focus their benevolence on a single individual or a specific aspect of the education process. To the greatest extent possible, the Catholic Education Foundation desires to accommodate these types of Donor’s interests.

One such offering the CEF is making available is referred to as “Adopt a Student” wherein the Benefactor agrees to sponsor a student throughout his or her primary and/or secondary education. In this manner a child who otherwise may never have the opportunity to receive a Catholic education is now afforded the opportunity. This gift lives forever!

Guidelines for this form of financial assistance are:

  • The Sponsor may not select the individual but may establish certain guidelines under which the CEF or its designate makes a selection. This is a requirement of the Internal Revenue Code if the Sponsor wishes to have the assistance qualify as a tax deductible contribution.

  • Acceptable types of guidelines are:
    • The student must matriculate at a specified school
    • The student must maintain the school’s minimum academic standards
    • The student must be a minority
    • The student must demonstrate financial need

  • The sponsorship period must be for at least four years; otherwise it is too disruptive to the child to bear the uncertainty of the future.

  • Whatever financial commitment is being made for the four year or greater period must be funded with the CEF prior to the designation of the recipient.
